Project
overview

Attakalari dance festival

I start by immersing myself in the essence of the Attakalari dance festival. I think about the themes, colors, and emotions that the festival embodies. I brainstorm ideas, sketching rough concepts and jotting down keywords that resonate with the festival's spirit. This phase is all about letting my creativity flow freely and exploring various possibilities.

I carefully select the materials and paints, ensuring they are durable and vibrant. I start painting the flags, paying attention to every detail and making sure the colors and patterns are just right. Once the flags are complete, I step back and admire the final product, feeling a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the festival.

1.Ideation

With my research in hand, I begin to visualize the final designs. I create detailed sketches, combining the vibrant colors from the KR Flower Market, the natural patterns from Lal Bagh.

2.Visualization

I experiment with different compositions and color palettes, ensuring that each flag tells a unique story while maintaining a cohesive theme.

3.Final Iteration

I created varying compositions and worked on different flags before settling with a sunflower and rose pattern that i sketched from Lal Bagh garden.

4.Tracing

After this we traced our ideations onto the triangular cutout templates, so as to get them prepared for the painting process.

5.Drying

We applied a layer of white paint first and allowed it to harden, to make the painting process easier and prevent spillages.

6.Painting

In the final process we painted over our flags choosing color schemes based on our site visits and our Attakalari theme.

Custom denim jeans

Fabric paint on denim

I started by researching different fabric paint techniques and designs. For the front side, the lightning design was inspired by my fascination with thunderstorms. There's something incredibly powerful and mesmerizing about lightning bolts cutting through the sky. I wanted to capture that energy and movement on the jeans, making them a statement piece that stands out.

The back side's text, "Fear God, not the devil," was inspired by street art and graffiti culture. I love how graffiti artists use bold fonts and vibrant colors to convey messages and emotions. This phrase holds significant meaning for me, reflecting a sense of faith and resilience. By incorporating it into the design, I aimed to create a powerful and personal statement.

Gothic, Lightning and Punk rock

Assignment brief for this client was to create a pair of custom black denim jeans in a modern hip hop style, using gothic elements along with demonic and angelic scriptures. (2x)

I cut out stencils from the created text so that i could paint the letters with precision and use them on other designs for the same company. I proceeded to use to letters as a base outline to paint over the jeans.

Developing a specialized font for the theme of the jeans( Gothic/ post apocalyptic ). Adding sharp curves to either sides of the alphabet to bring out contrasting features and gothic elements.

Typography

For the front side of the jeans, I decided to paint a lightning design. I sketched out the lightning bolts with a white chalk pencil. They represent a fusion of natural phenomena and urban expression, making them a unique piece of wearable art

Shading

I used a combination of metallic and neon fabric paints to create a striking effect. I layered the paints to add depth and used a fine brush for the intricate details. Combining these two elements allowed me to create a pair of jeans that are not only visually striking but also deeply personal.

I wanted to add some text. I chose a bold, graffiti-style font to make it stand out. After sketching the text with chalk, I carefully painted over it with fabric paint, making sure to use multiple coats for opacity. I also added some shadowing and highlights to give the text a 3D effect.
